The quintessential man of the sea, Jacques-Ives Cousteau died in Paris on June 26 at the age of 87. His legacy is profound. Scientists respected his creative engineering; engineers lauded his science. Cousteau, who claimed to be neither scientist nor engineer, contributed significantly to both disciplines - and to many more.
