MAIL ON SUNDAY LUXURY oven maker Aga has adopted a strategy of marketing its products more widely to appeal to city as well as country households.
The policy has worked and the firm had set its sights on annual sales of pounds 300m and profits of pounds 30m before the financial crisis hit. Aga operates mainly in the UK, but has a presence overseas and also owns tile company Fired Earth and kitchenware business Divertimenti. While Aga has been hit by the recession - with 2008 pre-tax profits almost halved to pounds 14.4m - it has coped well in the downturn and its wealthy customers have not been hit as hard as other groups.
