I had a brief first life in professional politics. I worked in D.C. for a while as an editor of a political news service by day, and by night I worked for a political consulting firm. We did 30-second commercials, direct mail, that sort of stuff.
By the early '90s I had kind of gotten tired of it, and this was about the same time something came around called the Internet. And so I took a job with a think tank in D.C. called the Morino Institute that basically used technology to help local community groups.
