The Institute for Transuranium Elements (ITV; Karlsruhe, Germany) has developed radionuclide generators specially designed to produce alpha particle-emitting radionuclides for cancer therapy.
Alpha-immunotherapy uses bismuth-213 (Bi-213) attached to a monoclonal antibody which targets bone marrow, liver and spleen. The radionuclide delivers high-powered, short-range alpha particle radiation.
