It's too early to sound "Taps" for Civic Stadium. But the announcement that the Emeralds and University of Oregon have agreed on a deal for Eugene's minor league baseball team to play the next 20 years at PK Park makes it hard to see how venerable Civic can be saved for future generations.
Granted, the agreement has yet to be formalized, and the university and the Ems have asked city, county and community leaders raise the $2 million needed to make PK Park suitable for minor league baseball - a dubious proposition in the current economic climate. But the Ems expect to obtain the waiver the team needs to play at the new stadium ...
