A straw poll among my office colleagues showed that most did not have a clue but when I added that it was also the year that Mortgage Strategy launched, all said it was obvious - 2001. And unlike HBOS, Mortgage Strategy is thankfully still with us.
In 2001 the average house price was #92,000 but in subsequent years this rose to a peak of #201,000 in Q3 2007, according to Halifax.
