The Egyptian government plans to invest $2.2 billion during the next fiscal year to help finance natural gas operations, the Ministry of Petroleum said.
Minister of Petroleum Sameh Fahmi said that Egypt under a national plan aims to provide 1.5 million households with natural gas by 2011 and 5.5 million households by 2015.
The domestic electric sector, he noted, consumes about 56 percent of the national gas output, while the industrial sector consumes just 29 percent.
