SANAA: Yemen s army said on Tuesday it had killed 18 Shiite rebels who attacked a strategic position in the northern mountains where the military is pressing a month-old offensive to crush the militants.
The Zaidi rebels, known also as Huthis, were killed as they tried to capture army posts in the Jebel al-Ahmar mountain area, some 15 kilometers (10 miles) south of the town of Saada -- the centre of the region of the same name which is a rebel stronghold, Saba state news agency quoted an army commander as saying.
"The army killed 18 of them and wounded many others, while the remaining (rebels) retreated," the unnamed commander said. ...
