PERTH, Sept 16 Asia Pulse - Disclosure negotiations are holding up the West Australian government's criminal prosecution of Apache Energy over the Varanus Island gas explosion.

The government is prosecuting the US-headquartered Apache, and its co-licensees, Kufpec Australia Pty Ltd and Tap Harriet Pty Ltd, for failing to maintain and repair a gas pipeline that exploded at the LNG plant, off Karratha, in June last year.

The Varanus Island explosion resulted in the state's gas supplies being slashed by one third, wreaking havoc on Apache's industrial customers and cutting the WA's business production by up to A$2 billion (US$1.73 billion).
