When it comes to treating brain aneurysms, there's an unpleasant choice and a less unpleasant choice.

Doctors can cut through the skull and clip the aneurysm, an abnormal bulge or sac that forms in the arterial wall of the brain. Or they can snake a microcatheter up from the patient's leg and fill the aneurysm with platinum coils, causing the sac to clot and close.
