A wonderful photographer, and a beautiful young man, Davide Sorrenti died this winter at the age of twenty. Here we talk with his mother, Interview contributing photographer Francesca, in the month (July) when Davide would have celebrated his twenty-first birthday
INGRID SISCHY: Francesca, describe Davide.
FRANCESCA SORRENTI: Davide was a homeboy, but he also loved art and opera. He'd been taking photographs since he was eighteen, and his photos depict his friends, street life, and his sense of fashion. He had just started to paint. He had thalassemia [a hereditary form of anemia], so he needed regular blood transfusions. In fact that's why we came to America ...
