Southfield-based automotive supplier Federal-Mogul Corp. did not infringe the patent of rival Novi-based Lydall Thermal/Acoustical Inc. on a flexible insulating shield Federal-Mogul produces, an appeals court has ruled.
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit last week upheld a lower court finding of non-infringement for Federal-Mogul on its ReflectShield 1440, which bears some resemblance to insulation shields that the Novi supplier makes.
The thermal shields generally are mounted in engine compartments or firewalls separating the engine from the passenger cabin as a form of heat and fire protection.
