Ontario's environment minister has signed off on a plan designed to provide effective, environmentally responsible management of the 12 million scrap tires generated in the province each year.
John Gerretsen announced approval of the Ontario Used Tire Program Plan in April at the annual general meeting of Waste Diversion Ontario, the provincial nonprofit corporation responsible for developing and administering waste recycling programs. The new program went into effect Sept. 1.
