18 SEPTEMBER 2009 CANBERRA (Pacnews) ---- The Australian Federal Police (AFP) could be back in Papua New Guinea in large numbers next year, under a new programme to help Australia's neighbour tackle its massive law and order problems, reports Sydney Morning Herald.
Four years after Australia had to withdraw hundreds of its police officers from PNG following the dramatic collapse of the Howard government's Enhanced Co-operation Programme, the AFP is preparing to go to the Rudd Government with proposals which could lead to the deployment of 150 police over four years.
