NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--S&P's CreditWire 6/18/98--Standard & Poor's today has assigned double-'B'-minus rating to Banco Santander Mexicano S.A.'s (SanMex) US$212.5 million subordinated capital debentures due May 16, 2004.

At the same time, Standard & Poor's affirmed its double-'B'-plus/single-'B' local currency counterparty credit ratings and its double-'B'/single-'B' foreign currency counterparty credit ratings on the bank. The outlook on the local currency ratings is stable. The outlook on the foreign currency ratings is positive.
