Taipei, Sept. 7, 2009 (CENS)--With Taiwanese traditional manufacturers actively retrofitting their factories for tourism purposes to secure higher profitability, the number of so-called tourist factories in Taiwan is expected to surge 55% to 53 at the end of this year from 34 last year, according to Shen Jong-Chin, Deputy General Director of Industrial Development Bureau under the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA).
MOEA's statistics show that the 34 officially approved tourist factories together generated extra production value of nearly NT$400 million (US$12.12 million at US$1: NT33) for their owners last year. Furthermore, over 1.1 million visits to tourist ...
