ENGLAND destroyed Australia in the first street athletics match between the two countries at the Great North City Games on the Newcastle and Gateshead Quaysides.
The two nations were level 1-1 after the opening day's action when Steve Lewis won the pole vault for the host team while Aussie captain Scot Martin led a one-two for the visitors in the shot but Martin's victory was to be the last as England athletes turned up the heat on the second day of the contest.
