Jun. 15--About 750 physicians affiliated with Presbyterian Healthcare System notified Aetna U.S. Healthcare on Friday that they would leave its North Texas health maintenance organization next month unless the insurer complies with the group's contract.
In a move that escalates an ongoing war between local doctors and Aetna, the Presbyterian doctors gave Aetna 30 days to resolve the differences. If that doesn't happen, about 8,000 patients will have to find new physicians or pay the full cost of seeing their existing doctors. Patients have not been notified of the doctors' potential departure.
