July 2000 is deadline

Chrysler sent a letter in December to its tooling and equipment suppliers that required they become registered to QS-9000, as interpreted by the Tooling & Equipment Supplement (T&ES) to QS-9000 by July 31, 2000. This follows the September 1997 announcement by Ford that it will require that 600 of its tooling and equipment suppliers be registered to ISO 9000 by January 2000.

It is reasonable to predict that GM will set a deadline for its tooling and equipment vendors sometime in 1998. GM will wait until it is clear how much pressure will be required to force its parts vendors into installing QS-9000 before it moves on to the tooling ...
