WORCESTER - The urban landscape of Worcester was much different from the rural Maryland town and dirt road where William L. Smith Jr. grew up.
Still, the standout athlete found his fit at Becker College.
About a year ago, the 19-year-old former homecoming king packed his clothes and infectious smile and headed up to the second biggest city in New England.
Ready to excel in basketball, his favorite sport, Mr. Smith immediately immersed himself in an environment much different from his hometown of Scotland, Md.
