AIR SERVICE WILL RETURN TO four Arkansas airports Oct. 12, hen SeaPort Airlines of Portland, Ore., begins flying daily from the airports.

The airports lost service after Air Midwest Inc., a subsidiary of Mesa Airlines of Phoenix, shut down in June 2008. Each of the airports--in El Dorado, Hot Springs, Harrison and Jonesboro--relies on the federally funded Essential Air Service program to offer daily commercial flights to and from the locations. The sites don't generate enough traffic to make regular air service economically feasible without the government subsidy.
