Chilean electricity distributor Empresas Emel has awarded power generator Empresa Electrica del Norte Grande a 14-year contract worth about $3 billion to supply its distribution subsidiaries in northern Chile from 2012 to 2026.

Edelnor will supply Emel's subsidiaries Eliqsa and Elecda, with a total 1,800 gigawatt hours of energy annually from 2012, gradually increasing to 2,300 gigawatt hours by 2016 and remaining at that level until 2026.
