Four people died in the crash of a small plane carrying college football fans who had flown to Gainesville, Fla., for a game, authorities said.

The pilot radioed for help moments before the single-engine Piper PA-32 crashed Sunday night near the Palm Beach-Broward County line in the Everglades, WPTV, West Palm Beach, reported Monday.

Air boats were needed to reach the plane, which had been chartered by football fans for Saturday's Florida-Tennessee game in Gainesville, authorities said.
