This week saw the anniversary of the collapse of Lehman Brothers. September last year was a period of great anxiety as the large American Investment Bank collapsed into bankruptcy, effectively signalling the collapse of the pack of cards.

Within days it looked like AIG, the one time third largest company in the world would follow Lehman.

Here, HBOS also looked to be in considerable trouble.

Fear became the main emotion as suddenly all the institutions we had put our trust in looked vulnerable.
