Mid-morning and a hard frost still showed frothy white in the deep, shadowy grasses where the sun had not penetrated. Summer is waning fast in the Adirondacks.
We were intent on finding the first acceptable put-in for our canoe, the first proper launch for navigation in the Hudson River.
We poked and prodded along the bank of the stream that is part Calamity Brook and part outlet from Henderson Lake, rejecting one site after another. Too rocky. Too shallow.
