Swimmer's ear is an infection in the lining of your outer ear. When you spend a lot of time in the water or when water gets trapped in your outer ear, the skin in your outer ear becomes soft. This makes it easier for bacteria to grow and start an infection.

Some children are more likely to get swimmer's ear than others. After swimming or showering, dry your ears carefully with a towel. Tilt your head from side to side and gently pull your ear in different directions to help the water escape. Do not use cotton swabs to clean or dry your ears, especially if you get swimmer's ear.
