Don Runkle has joined a startup company developing next-generation diesel-engine designs.
Runkle is the new CEO of EcoMotors International of suburban Detroit. The company was founded in 2008 by Peter Hofbauer, a pioneer in the development of contemporary diesel engines. Hofbauer is a former head of Volkswagen AG's powertrain development.
EcoMotors is backed by Vinod Khosla of Khosla Ventures, a venture capitalist who has backed cellulosic ethanol and other technologies meant to redefine vehicle propulsion.
