Tired of finding knockoffs of their clothing at fast-fashion chains like Forever 21 and H&M, designers are fighting back.

Enter embellishments. Intricate beadwork, latticework, chiffon ruffles or flowered appliques layered on inexpensive fabric were a key trend at New York Fashion Week, which concluded last Thursday. Many big-name designers, like Marc Jacobs and Carolina Herrera, focused on unique details to make the clothes their own.
