Q: Do firefighters recommend having a fire extinguisher in homes? If so, what size is appropriate?
A: The answer comes from Bill Mace of the Seattle Fire Department Public Safety Section:
Fire extinguishers are recommended in homes. However, it is important to become trained to use it before attempting to extinguish a fire.
Fire is unpredictable so always make sure 911 has been called before attempting to put a fire out with an extinguisher and if the fire does not go out, get out immediately.
