Poor economy drops demand, allowing customers to catch a break

Now that chilly nights have forced many Northern New Mexicans to light the pilots on heaters, here's some good news for those who use natural gas: Prices are at a seven-year low.

That means lower heating costs again this winter.

There are signs that gas prices eventually will rebound as the economy improves, but Monica Hussey of New Mexico Gas Co., whose service territory includes Santa Fe and most of the state, said the company's 500,000 customers are catching a break.
