Many of the companies in this year's Top 100 listing have held leadership positions for several years. Interstingly enough, despite current economic conditions, the leaders are still leading, strong players are still maintaining position, and smaller processors are moving up in the ranks. Sales have either soared, increased slightly or stayed the same. Not one company seemed to slip drastically this year--proof positive that the meat- and poultry-processing industry can weather any storm and still come up fighting.
Not surprisingly, Tyson remains the heavy hitter, followed by Cargill, Smithfield Foods and Kraft.
