Due to the increased number of elderly individuals with musculoskeletal diseases in developed countries including Japan (WHO Scientific Group 2003), a variety of group-based exercise regimens for the elderly have been proposed (Ades et al 1996, Ettinger et al 1997, Suzuki et al 2004).
