When I was a small child, my mother taught me to pray before bed:
Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray the Lord my soul to keep.
If I should die before I wake,
I pray the Lord my soul to take.
My perverse sense of humor would like to tell you that I developed a sleeping disorder at an early age. I didn't. But the words I was taught to say each night caused me to begin wondering: Is God angry?
