WHEN Patricia and Derek Hodgson moved into their Stocksfield home 11 years ago, they were keen to use local, independent shops and craftspeople to restore their late 19th Century property to its former glory.

And they did exactly the same thing when revamping their home recently for the second time.

"I think I've single-handedly kept the local economy moving," laughs Glasgow-born Patricia, who is assistant director of the National Insurance Contributions Office, at Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs, and received an OBE in 2003 for her work.
