What's the best way to treat a child with a runny nose? Most of the time the correct answer isn't with antibiotics. Doctors are taught that, except in certain situations, antibiotics shouldn't be used to treat runny noses.
What's important in deciding whether or not to use antibiotics is how long the child has had the runny nose. If it's less than 7-10 days, then there's no reason for antibiotics. Even if the snot is green, antibiotics are not needed.
