The impact of QOS will be felt from the network down to the desktop
These days, everyone seems focused on Quality of Service (QOS), and the issue is going to become even more complex. With the advent of virtual private networks (VPNs), our networks will support communities of locations and resources, each requiring specific and often different performance guarantees.
But unless these individual quality levels can be indicated at the demarc, the whole concept of flexible VPNs is in trouble. The network-based mechanism(s) for QOS enforcement will be useless unless traffic at the demarc can be associated with a specific guarantee.
