How a noisy church door and a beer pump helped start an industry
We take it for granted that today's door closers will control a door through its entire swing, but the first practical closers were developed mainly to keep the doors of a church from slamming and disrupting services. From that modest beginning in 1877 has sprung a broad range of door control products that include such diverse designs as surface-mounted and concealed closers, floor-mounted closers and power door operators that improve accessibility for those with disabilities.
