There have not been too many "g'days" of late for Australian winemakers. It's hard to say which drought has wreaked more havoc: the rainless conditions at home or the drying up of the market for Aussie wines on these shores.
Yellow Tail is still doing boffo business, but the other "critter label" wines have largely tanked and Aussie wines costing more than $15 saw their U.S. sales decline 17 percent last year. As imports rise from other Southern Hemisphere (Chile, Argentina, South Africa) and southern European (Spain, Italy) countries, many Aussie wines are gathering dust in stores and warehouses.
