A DOCTOR was 'intimidated' into prescribing large amounts of powerful sedatives - some of which were sold on the black market, a hearing was told yesterday.
An Irish Medical Council inquiry heard that Dr Iwona Kulczyk Repec was convinced to give patients high doses of tranquillisers such as the 'date rape' drug Rohypnol.
Dr Kulczyk Repec, who is in her 40s, qualified in her native Poland in 1992 and registered in Ireland in 2006.
Concerns about the volume of drugs that the doctor was pre-scribing were raised after an HSE pharmacist received calls from some 16 separate chemists in Cork.
