DUBLIN, Ireland, July 2 /PRNewswire/ -- CRH plc, the international building materials group, today (Thursday July 2, 1998) announced a range of development initiatives totaling 83.5 million Irish pounds undertaken during the first half of 1998. These deals are in addition to the 43 million pounds acquisition of M.A. Segale, Inc. announced in May.

* CRH Europe -- Materials: 13.5 million pounds

Development initiatives to expand capacity in paver production, block

manufacture and cement operations in Ireland.

* CRH Europe -- Products & Distribution: 17.4 million pounds
