The Fars news agency reported falsely Saturday that President Obama has tried to tempt the Islamic Republic into joining talks with Washington by offering to sell Iran 20 Boeing passenger jets to be paid for out of frozen Iranian assets.
The story gathered considerable attention for a day until the Iranian Civil Aviation Organization denied there had been any such offer.
Fars quoted an unnamed source as saying that after the June 12 elections, Obama sent Iran a message saying it could have 20 Boeing passenger planes with spare parts for $2.5 billion, with the funds being taken from the frozen Iranian funds the United States has been holding since Jimmy ...
