It could cost some US$426mn to protect Jamaica from a 1m rise in the sea level, according to the National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA), government information service JIS reported.
At a Shipping Association of Jamaica (SAJ) discussion panel to mark maritime awareness week, NEPA coastal zone management branch director Anthony McKenzie said the agency is already working to combat rising sea levels.
"Jamaica is largely dependent on its coastline and key infrastructure, such as the air and seaports, and many of our industries are located along our coastlines," McKenzie said.
