STP Nuclear Operating Co's 1,280-megawatt Unit 2 at the South Texas nuclear power station in Texas ramped up to 98 percent power by early Tuesday from 20 percent early Monday after exiting an outage, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission said in a report.
The unit shut by Sept. 17 for work on the extraction steam system. Degradation of bellows in the main condenser resulted in a loss of overall efficiency that warranted repair.
The bellows were designed to expand and contract based on steam pressure and temperature. They are only accessible when the unit is shut.
