MIKA ROTTENBERG
Maison Rouge, Paris
In 2006, artist Mika Rottenberg was awarded the inaugural Cartier Prize to produce a commissioned piece for London's Frieze Art Fair. The result was Chasing Waterfalls: The Rise and Fall of the Amazing Seven Sutherland Sisters, Part I (2006), an extension of which, Cheese (2008), was shown at Paris' Maison Rouge during their exhibition of the artist's video works, a show that also featured Dough (2005-06), Tropical Breeze (2004), and Julie (2003).
Rottenberg's videos are colourific narrative confabulations that can be described as the bastard children of Rube Goldberg machines and Fischli and Weiss' The Way ...
