Iraq has barred Sinopec from its second oil licensing round because the Chinese state giant has yet to give up acreage in the politically sensitive Kurdish north gained through its takeover of Addax Petroleum, a senior Iraqi oil official said on Tuesday.
"Sinopec will not be allowed to buy any data packages for the second round oil fields," the official told Oil Daily. "We consider Sinopec to be disqualified unless it withdraws from the Kurdish blocks."
He also said the company will be prevented from attending a workshop in Istanbul on Oct. 18-19 convened to discuss the second round.
