MILTON -- Dan Butler's first job with Saratoga County 31 years ago was killing mosquitoes. Today, it's finding homes for dogs and cats as the supervisor of the county animal shelter.
In his 20s, he watched county workers turn an old barn into the animal shelter next to the county jail. In 1999, frustrated by conditions at the aging shelter, Butler, 51, left his job with the county. He came back in 2006 with an understanding a new shelter would be built.
Wednesday was his proudest day yet.
Butler and other county officials broke ground on a new, $5.3 million shelter, close to where the current building stands.
