Civic duty in health care
I HAD A far different take on the Erin Ryan op-ed from Sept. 21 than that of the writer of "Excess of self-interest," letters, Sept. 25. I was taken by the fact that Ryan was willing to spend thousands of dollars to help her pet but apparently was content to wait for the "system" to be reformed for her faithful housekeeper to get proper health care.
While the true needs and means of health care reform are hopefully being carefully and cautiously sorted out by our elected officials, an individual like Ryan could temporarily pitch in and cover the cost of her housekeeper's doctor's visit.
