Dealers handling Chinese-built consumer tires can expect to see double-digit price increases and spot shortages of certain lines and sizes in the coming months as the higher tariffs mandated Sept. 11 by the Obama administration take effect, although many distributors handling Chinese products had yet to declare their positions at Tire Business' deadline.
There does not appear, however, to be a widespread threat that supplies of Chinese-built passenger and light truck tires are going to dry up overnight, as a number of suppliers have indicated they intend to keep shipping, albeit at higher prices.
