What's worth seeing? Split is the biggest city on Croatia's Dalmatian Coast, and boasts an idyllic stretch of shoreline. The Roman emperor Diocletian liked Split so much that he built his retirement palace in the area, and much of the ruins are still visible, with the complex being one of the most impressive Roman ruins in the world. Nearby, the emperor's mausoleum has been converted into Split's Cathedral.
