INTRODUCTION

Alkyd resins are used extensively as a binder for making exterior paints. This paint is applied on the superstructure of ships and remains exposed to UV radiation, thermal fluctuations, high humidity, and wind driven salt spray. Under such extreme conditions of marine atmosphere in the Indian tropical region, it shows considerable chalking, color fading, and loss of gloss within a period of 9-12 months.
